Completed 2016

Mixed-use building with workshops and flats in Brighton town centre.

This mixed-use building in the heart of the Brighton lanes beside the Buddhist centre incorporates two workshops in the basement, four one-bedroom flats and one penthouse at the top, all for rent.

The striking red brickwork and large grey-rimmed windows sit comfortably with the surrounding older buildings while bringing the building up to date and adding colour to the street scene.

The basement was extended to provide enough space for the two workshops, with the back doors opening at street-level on Orange Road. The workshops will likely be let out to artists, craftspeople or micro-businesses – supporting the vibrant small business economy of the North Laine.

“Mark’s contribution has been invaluable. He kept a tight rein on the project so things didn’t go astray, when the builders wanted to change things it was all properly discussed, documented and followed up. I’m really pleased with the look of the building, especially the colour of the bricks and windows. It fits in great with the street scene, far better than I anticipated. I have recommended Mark to others and I would be happy to work with him again.” – Ruth Stoton (Client).
