Haywards Villas | Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Major open-plan extension to an Edwardian cottage in rural town of Haywards Heath.
This new addition to a traditional Edwardian worker’s cottage provides a new open-plan kitchen and dining room opening straight onto the garden.
The glazed roof-light and sliding/folding doors floods the space with daylight and reduces the demand for artificial lighting, therefor helping to cut energy bills and carbon emissions. The sliding/folding doors provide a seamless transition from inside to outside, blurring the boundary between house and garden.
The extension features oak cladding on the exterior walls to match the oak fixtures in the kitchen. This extensive use of timber teamed with the slate flooring and brickwork on the existing exterior achieves a tasteful mix of traditional and modern styles.
