In Progress

Detached property with large basement and sunken courtyard.

This compact detached three-bedroom house is designed as a retirement home, with much of the accommodation underground in the basement in order to minimise the footprint and the visual impact.

The house benefits from a lift down to the basement which is accessible for wheel-chair users. The driveway allows parking for two cars and the garden features a sunken courtyard beside the house.

The contemporary house style draws on traditional forms in the conservation area, with white render and a slate gable roof. There is a solar thermal system which contributes to the hot water requirement and shrinks the carbon footprint of the household. There are also roof-lights to bring daylight into the building and help with natural ventilation.

“Mark’s designs have been very innovative, making good use of a difficult site. He has been readily available and very productive. His service has pleased me enormously!”
– Herb Etkin (client).
